Product Name Galvus Met 50/1000, Reduce Blood Glucose Level & Prevent Diabetes Complications - 60 Tablets Scientific Name Vildagliptin 50 + Metformin 1000 Mg Tablets Category Of Galvus Met 50/1000 Tablets Oral Anti-Diabetic Drugs Mechanism Of Action Of Vildagliptin & Metformin Vildagliptin is an inhibitor of DPP-4, an enzyme that degrades the incretin hormones glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Incretins help the body produce more insulin only when it is needed and reduce the amount of glucose being produced by the liver when it is not needed. Metformin decreases blood glucose levels by decreasing hepatic glucose production (also called gluconeogenesis) Metformin decreases the intestinal absorption of glucose Metformin increases insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization Therapeutic Indications Of Galvus Met 50/1000 Tablets It is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients whose diabetes is not adequately controlled on metformin hydrochloride or vildagliptin alone Method Of Administration Of Galvus Met 50/1000 Tablets It should be given with meals to reduce the gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin hydrochloride. It may be initiated at 50mg/500 mg once daily and gradually titrated to a maximum dose of 50mg/1000 mg twice daily after assessing the adequacy of therapeutic response Doses higher than 100mg of vildagliptin are not recommended Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions. If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose. Undesirable Side Effects Of Galvus Met 50/1000 Tablets Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from: Tremor, dizziness, headache Nausea Hypoglycemia Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Galvus Met 50/1000 Tablets If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Warnings & Special Precautions While Taking Galvus Met 50/1000 Tablets Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you have: Hypersensitivity to vildagliptin or metformin hydrochloride or any of the excipients If you have moderate or severe liver problems Severe renal impairment Congestive heart failure Acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including lactic acidosis or diabetic ketoacidosis Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements. Storage Conditions Of Galvus Met 50/1000 Tablets Store below 25°c Don’t refrigerate Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store in the original package to protect from moisture. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month. Normal Ranges Random blood sugar test: A blood sample will be taken at a random time. Regardless of when you last ate, a blood sugar level of 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or higher suggests diabetes. A blood sugar level of less than 140 mg/dL is normal. A reading between 140 and 199 mg/dL indicates prediabetes Fasting blood sugar test. A blood sample will be taken after an overnight fast. A fasting blood sugar level of less than 100 mg/dl is normal. A fasting blood sugar level from 100 to 125 mg/dL is considered prediabetes. If it's 126 mg/dL or higher on two separate tests, you may have diabetes. Oral glucose tolerance test: For this test, you fast overnight, and the fasting blood sugar level is measured. Then you drink a sugary liquid, and blood sugar levels are tested periodically for the next two hours.
