Mechanism Of Action Of Rosuvastatin

Rosuvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medication that belongs to the statin class of drugs. Statins lower cholesterol levels in the blood by blocking 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A(HMG-CoA) reductase, an enzyme that's needed for the liver to produce cholesterol.
Decreased hepatic cholesterol concentrations stimulate the upregulation of hepatic low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors, which increases hepatic uptake of LDL & decreases LDL level in the blood.

It is used to lower lipids known as cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood when a low-fat diet and lifestyle changes on their own have failed.
Cholesterol is a naturally occurring substance in the body necessary for normal growth. However, if there is too much cholesterol in your blood, it can build up on blood vessel walls, increasing the risk of blood clots and cardiovascular events. This is one of the most common causes of heart disease.

Method Of Administration Of Rost 10 Mg Tablets

Your treatment with Rosuvastatin must start with the 5 mg or the 10 mg dose, even if you have taken a higher dose of a different statin before. The choice of your start dose will depend upon:
Your cholesterol levels.
The level of risk you have of experiencing a heart attack or stroke.
Whether you have a factor that may make you more sensitive to possible side effects.
Your doctor may decide to increase your dose. The maximum daily dose of Rosuvastatin is 40 mg
Take Rosuvastatin once daily.
You can take it at any time of the day but the most common instruction is to take your statin at night. This is because cholesterol production is thought to be highest at night
You can take the tablets with or without food
Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:

Warnings & Special Precautions While Taking Rost 10 Mg Tablets
Do not use it:
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients of this medicine
if you currently have liver problems
if you are pregnant or breast-feeding
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Rosuvastatin:
If you have problems with your kidneys.
If you have problems with your liver.
If you have had repeated or unexplained muscle aches or pains, a personal or family history of muscle problems, or a previous history of muscle problems when taking other cholesterol-lowering medicines. Tell your doctor immediately if you have unexplained muscle aches or pains, especially if you feel unwell or have a fever.
If your thyroid gland is not working properly.
If you take other medicines called fibrates to lower your cholesterol.
If you take medicines used to treat the HIV infection e.g. ritonavir with lopinavir and/or atazanavir.
If you are taking or have taken in the last 7 days a medicine called fusidic acid (a medicine for bacterial infection), orally or by injection. The combination of fusidic acid and Rosuvastatin can lead to serious muscle problems (rhabdomyolysis).
If you are over 70 (as your doctor needs to choose the right start dose of Rosuvastatin to suit you)
If you have severe respiratory failure.
If you are of Asian origin – that is Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, and Indian.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.
