What Dexilant 60 Mg is and what it is used for: Esomeprazole belongs to a group of medicines called ‘proton pump inhibitors’. They work by reducing the amount of acid that your stomach produces. Duodenal ulcers (a sore that forms at the beginning of your small intestine) H Pylori eradication (bacteria that can live in your gut and cause ulcers) to prevent recurrence of duodenal ulcers Benign gastric ulcer (a non-cancerous sore that forms in your stomach) NSAID-associated ulcer (sore that forms in your gut due to excessive use of NSAIDs) GERD (acid reflux also known as “heartburn”): is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the gullet (“food pipe”) which may become inflamed and painful. This may cause your symptoms such as a painful sensation in the chest rising to your throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation). Erosive esophagitis (acid irritation injuring the esophagus): inflammation that may damage tissues of the esophagus, the muscular tube that delivers food from your mouth to your stomach. Esophagitis can cause painful, difficult swallowing and chest pain. Pathological hyper-secretory conditions (problems in the gut that cause excessive acid production) Method Of Administration Of Dexilant 60 Mg Capsules Take with or without food Swallow whole; do not chew Healing of erosive esophagitis: 60 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks Maintenance of healed erosive esophagitis: 30 mg once daily for up to 6 months Symptomatic non-erosive GERD: 30 mg once daily for 4 weeks Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions. If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose. Possible side effects: Most commonly reported adverse reactions (?2%): diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, upper respiratory tract infection, vomiting, and flatulence. Advice To Reduce Heartburn: Eat sparingly and slowly Avoid certain foods like (Fried food, Chili foods, …etc.) Don't drink carbonated beverages Stay up after eating & Finish eating three hours before you go to bed Don't move too fast Sleep on an incline Lose weight if it's advised Avoid tight clothes If you smoke, quit Remember you can always check for H-Pylori Infection by using Heli C Check, H. Pylori Self-Testing Device Warnings & Precautions : Do not use this medication in: Patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation Patients receiving rilpivirine-containing products Gastric Malignancy: Symptomatic response with dexlansoprazole does not preclude the presence of gastric malignancy Acute Interstitial Nephritis: Observed in patients taking PPIs Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B-12) Deficiency: Daily long-term use (e.g., longer than 3 years) may lead to malabsorption or a deficiency of cyanocobalamin Clostridium difficile Associated Diarrhea: PPI therapy may be associated with increased risk Bone Fracture: Long-term and multiple daily dose PPI therapy may be associated with an increased risk for osteoporosis-related fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine Hypomagnesemia: Reported rarely with prolonged treatment with PPIs Interactions with Diagnostic Investigations for Neuroendocrine Tumors: Increases in intragastric pH may result in hypergastrinemia and enterochromaffin-like cell hyperplasia and increased chromogranin A levels which may interfere with diagnostic investigations for neuroendocrine tumors Interaction with Methotrexate: Concomitant use with PPIs may elevate and/or prolong serum concentrations of methotrexate and/or its metabolite, possibly leading to toxicity. With high dose methotrexate administration, consider a temporary withdrawal. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking: Antiretrovirals Warfarin Methotrexate Digoxin Drugs Dependent on Gastric pH for Absorption (e.g., iron salts, erlotinib, dasatinib, nilotinib, mycophenoloate mofetil, ketoconazole/itraconazole) Tacrolimus CYP2C19 or CYP3A4 Inhibitors CYP2C19 or CYP3A4 Inducers Storage Conditions Of Dexilant 60 Mg Capsules Store below 25°c Don’t refrigerate Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store in the original package to protect from moisture. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
