Product Name Protopic, 0.03% Ointment, For Atopic Dermatitis - 30 Gm Scientific Name Tacrolimus 0.03% Ointment Category Of Protopic 0.03% Ointment Atopic Dermatitis Preparation Mechanism Of Action Of Tacrolimus 0.03% Ointment This drug works by weakening the skin's defense (immune) system, thereby decreasing the allergic reaction and relieving eczema. Tacrolimus belongs to a class of drugs known as topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCIs). Therapeutic Indications Of Protopic 0.03% Ointment tacrolimus is used on the skin to treat a skin condition called eczema (atopic dermatitis) in patients who have not responded well to (or should not use) other eczema medications. Eczema is an allergic-type condition that causes red, irritated, and itchy skin. Method Of Administration Of Protopic 0.03% Ointment Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions. If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose. Undesirable Side Effects Of Protopic 0.03% Ointment Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from: Stinging, burning, soreness, or itching in the area of treated skin may occur during the first few days of treatment. Headache, acne, ""hair bumps"" (folliculitis), stomach upset, flu-like symptoms (such as fever, chills, runny nose, sore throat, muscle aches), or increased sensitivity of the skin to hot/cold/pain/touch may also occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Protopic 0.03% Ointment If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Warnings & Special Precautions While Taking Protopic 0.03% Ointment Before using tacrolimus, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other macrolide medications (such as sirolimus); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: swollen lymph nodes (for example, due to lymphadenopathy, mononucleosis), use of light therapy (such as UVA or UVB), skin or other cancers, skin infections (such as herpes, shingles), other skin conditions, kidney disease. Storage Conditions Of Protopic 0.03% Ointment Store below 25°c Don’t refrigerate Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store in the original package to protect from moisture. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
