What is plavix:

Plavix keeps platelets in your blood from clumping together to form an undesirable blood clot that may block an artery.

Indication of Plavix:

• Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet agent used to:
  • prevent blood clots in peripheral vascular disease,
  • Prevent coronary artery disease.
  • Pevent cerebrovascular disease.

Warnings and precautions of plavix:

• Refer to your doctor if you have any of this symptoms:
  • Nosebleeds, pale complexion, easy bruising, and purple spots under the skin or in the mouth.
  • jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
  • Rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath.
  • Headache, fever, weakness, fatigue.
  • Urine production is little to non-existent.
  • A seizure.
  • Low blood sugar symptoms include headaches, hunger, perspiration, irritability, dizziness, high heart rate, and feelings of anxiety or shakiness.
  • Signs of a blood clot include abrupt numbness or weakness, confusion, and difficulty seeing or speaking.

Plavix during pregnancy and breatfeeding:

• Ask your doctor first.
• Plavix used with caution in pregnancy and breastfeeding as its category B.

:Plavix possible side effects

• Bleeding.
• Diarrhea.
• Abdominal pain.
• Heartburn and stomach ulcer.
• Headache.
• Nausea.
• Constipation, bloating, 
• Itching.
• Numbness.
• Vertigo.

:How to use plavix

• Plavix can be taken with or without food.
• Plavix is sometimes taken together with aspirin.

:Mechanism of action of plavix

The active metabolite of clopidogrel selectively inhibits the binding of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to its platelet P2Y12 receptor and the subsequent ADP- mediated activation of the glycoprotein GPIIb/IIIa complex, thereby inhibiting platelet aggregation. This action is irreversible.

:Other medicines and Clopidogrel

• Omeprazole, Nexium, or Prilosec.
• Antidepressant drugs.
• Rifampin.
• Warfarin.
• NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) - aspirin, ibuprofen.

:Life style modification

• If your doctor has prescribed special stockings (also known as compression stockings), wear them.
• Change your position frequently, especially on a long ride.
• Do not stand or sit for longer than an hour at a time.
• Wear loose clothing, socks, or stockings.
• Do the workouts prescribed by your doctor.

:How to store Plavix

• Stored at room temperature below 25°C.
• Keep away from children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date shown on the carton label or blister strip.
