Alfacalcidol is a Vitamin D active metabolite that regulates calcium levels and bone metabolism. It is a vitamin D-hormone analogue that is activated in the liver by the enzyme 25-hydroxylase to provide systemic and local D-hormone activity. It exerts different pleiotropic effects on the stomach, bone, parathyroids, muscle, and brain.

Uses:

• Used in adult patients with chronic renal failure for the treatment of hypocalcemia, secondary hyperparathyroidism, or osteodystrophy.
• Treatment of nutritional and malabsorptive rickets.
• Vitamin D-dependent rickets.
• Hypophosphataemic vitamin D resistant rickets and osteomalacia.

• If you are having an allergic reaction to it or any other medications related to it.

• You need to urinate more often.
• You feel thirsty.
• You experience tiredness.
