Nitroglycerin causes the relaxation of vascular smooth muscles, causing arteriolar and venous dilatation.
It reduces cardiac preload and afterload and reduces coronary artery spasm, decreasing systemic vascular resistance as well as systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
The reduction of cardiac work by nitroglycerin is thought to cause the most relief of anginal symptoms, with some contributions from arteriolar dilatation effects.

It belongs to a group of medicines called vasodilators. It works by dilating the blood vessels to allow better circulation, so It can also be used to lower blood pressure.
Method Of Administration Of Nitroderm Tts Patches
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The usual recommended dose is:
One or two patches are applied daily.
The patches should be applied on clean dry skin, without hair on it
Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
Headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, and flushing may occur as your body adjusts to this medication. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical help if you develop a rash; hives; itching; red,
swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing,
swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Nitroderm Tts Patches
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Warnings & Special Precautions While Taking Nitroderm Tts Patches
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: a recent head injury, anemia, low blood pressure, dehydration, or other heart problems (such as a recent heart attack).
Do not take Glyceryl Trinitrate
If you’re allergic to Glyceryl Trinitrate, other nitrates, or any other component of this medicine.
If you have low blood pressure.
If you have low blood volume (due to severe blood loss).
If you have an elevated pressure in the skull (increased intracranial pressure).
If you have inflammation of the outer lining of the heart or compression of the heart.
If you have anemia.
If you taking medicine to treat erection problems such as Sildenafil.
If you are taking a guanylate cyclase stimulator like Riociguat
Talk to your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this medicine including:
If you have heart problems.
If you have thyroid problems.
If you have severe liver or kidney problems.
If you have glaucoma.
