Methylergonovine is used to prevent and control bleeding from the uterus that can happen after childbirth. It belongs to the class of medicines called ergot alkaloids.
Product Description: Methylergonovine is used to prevent and control bleeding from the uterus that can happen after childbirth. It belongs to the class of medicines called ergot alkaloids. This medicine works by acting directly on the smooth muscles of the uterus and prevents bleeding after giving birth. This medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription. METHERGIN 200 MCG 5 AMP 1 ML for Active management of the third stage of labor ( as a means to promote separation of the placenta and to reduce blood loss ). Treatment of uterine atony / hemorrhage occurring during and after the third stage of labor , in association with Cesarean section or following abortion. Treatment of subinvolution of the uterus , lochiometra , puerperal bleeding. Following delivery of placenta, for routine management of uterine atony, hemorrhage and subinvolution of the uterus. For control of uterine hemorrhage in the second stage of labor following delivery of the anterior shoulder. How To Use: Dosage of methergin 200 mcg 5 amp 1 ml follow all directions given to your pharmacist or doctor. They May Differ From The Information Contained In The Leaflet. Ask Your Pharmacist Or Doctor For Help If You Do Not Understand The Instructions On The Box. The recommended dose is: Active management of the third stage of labor : Intramuscular injection ( I.M ) is the recommended route of administration . When administered intravenously ( I.V. ) the dose must be administered slowly over a period of no less than 60 seconds . The recommended dosage of Methergin is : 1 ml ( 0.2 mg ) I.M. Or 0.5 to 1 ml ( 0.1 to 0.2 mg ) by slow I.V. Administration following delivery of the anterior shoulder on at the latest , immediately after delivery of the child . Expulsion of the placenta , usually separated by the first strong contraction following Methergin , should be manually assisted by applying fundal pressure . For delivery under general anesthesia : The recommended dose is 1 ml ( 0.2 mg ) by slow Lv . Injection , Treatment of uterine atony / hemorrhage : M injection is the recommended route of administration . When administered intravenously ( I.V. ) the dose must be administered slowly over a period of no less than 60 seconds . The recommended dosage of Methergin is : 1 ml ( 0.2 mg ) I.M. or 0.5 to 1 mL ( 0.1 to 0.2 mg ) by slow I.V. administration . The dose may be repeated every 2 to 4 hours , if necessary , up to five doses within 24 hours . Treatment of subinvolution of the uterus , lochiometra , puerperal bleeding : The recommended dosage of Methergin is : 1 to 2 tablets ( 0.125 to 0.25 mg ) orally , or 0.5 to 1 mL ( 0.1 to 0.2 mg ) s.c. or I.M. , up to 3 times daily and usually for up to 5 days . Special populations : Renal impairment / Hepatic impairment : Caution should be exercised in the presence of impaired hepatic or renal function. Warnings And Precautions: It is very important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits while you are taking this medicine. This will allow your doctor to see if the medicine is working properly and to decide if you should continue to take it. Using this medicine while you are pregnant can harm your unborn baby. This medicine may cause contraction of the uterus and cause you to give birth early. This medicine may increase your chance of having a heart attack. This is more likely to occur if you have diabetes, high cholesterol, or if you smoke or are overweight. Call your doctor right away if you have chest pain or discomfort, nausea or vomiting, pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck, trouble breathing, or sweating while using this medicine. Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. This includes prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [otc]) medicines and herbal or vitamin supplements. Ingredients: INGREDIENT OF METHERGIN 200 MCG 5 AMP 1 ML Solution for injection : 1 ml contains 0.2 mg methylergometrine hydrogen maleate .
