What Beta-sitosterol is used for: This product is used in the following indications: First degree burns which are burns that involve only the top layer of the skin and are mild in origin and usually heal rapidly (e.g. sunburn). Second degree burns which are superficial and deeper burns that may not require skin grafting (removal of skin from one area to the affected area) if properly treated with this medicine. Third degree burns (burns that affect deep layers of the skin sometimes reaching the tendons, bones and muscles), to reduce the painful skin area and to prepare it for nonsurgical debridement and grafting. To reduce pain in a donor site (skin area from which a shaving of your skin is taken to be grafted and used in your wounded skin area) and to control the risk of infection in that site enhancing skin recovery. Surgical wounds including obstetrical (due to childbirth and its related processes) wounds. Chronic wounds like diabetic foot, leg ulcers (sores) and bed ulcers. Procedures like chemical peeling, dermabrasion (exfoliating technique) and post laser resurfacing. Circumcision wounds. Cracked nipples or heels. Mucous membrane wounds like mouth sores. Do not use Beta-sitosterol: If you have an allergy to Beta-sitosterol (very rare), sesame oil or any of the ingredients present in this product. Warnings & Precautions: Stop the medication right away and talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you develop any allergic or skin reactions to any of the ingredients present in this ointment such as Skin itchiness, skin redness, shortness of breath, skin rash, swelling of the face or neck, decreased blood pressure and dizziness. This medicine is designed for external topical use only. Do not swallow this product. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor, do not use for other purposes. Do not repeat the same prescription without talking to your doctor first. Possible Side Effects: This medicine is of natural and edible herbal origin and no undesirable side effects were reported from the use of this product except for rare reports of allergic reactions to sesame oil present in this product. Stop using this product and contact your healthcare provider if you experience any allergic reactions, like rash, itching, red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin, wheezing, difficulty breathing and chest tightness. Other medicines and Beta-sitosterol: Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medications including topical products. How to use Beta-sitosterol: First degree burns (superficial burns) Apply a thin layer of the ointment on the affected skin area as immediately as possible. Keep the affected area exposed. If there is a need to cover the area, you can use a light dressing. Renew the ointment application 3 to 4 times daily if the burnt area is not covered, and twice daily if the burnt area is covered. Second degree burns First phase (liquefying period): Apply a thin layer of the ointment on the affected skin area as immediately as possible. Keep the affected area exposed. If there is a need to cover the area, you can use a light dressing. Renew the ointment application 3 to 4 times daily if the burnt area is not covered, and twice daily (applying a thicker layer of ointment) if the burnt area is covered. Make sure to wipe off the liquefied necrotic tissue before reapplying the ointment. Second phase (repair period): ointment should be applied the same as before but less frequently; 2 to 3 times daily. Third phase (rehabilitation period): ointment should be applied the same as before but less frequently; once daily. Third degree burns Apply the ointment as mentioned for second degree burns during liquefying phase; a thin layer of the ointment on the affected skin area as immediately as possible to be reapplied 3 to 4 times daily. Donor site Apply a thin layer of the ointment on the affected skin. Renew the ointment application 3 to 4 times daily if the burnt area is not covered, and twice daily if the burnt area is covered. Leg ulcers Impregnate a sterile gauze with the ointment making sure to completely fill the cavity of the skin ulcer and reapply twice daily. Cracked nipples Apply a thin layer of the ointment on the affected nipple under a light pad. Renew the ointment application 3 to 4 times daily. This medicine is safe for your baby if you are breastfeeding. How to store Beta-sitosterol: Keep out of the reach of children and pets Store below 25°C This medicine may change its physical appearance when stored during hot seasons but this does not affect its efficacy Do not dispose medication in the wastewater or household waste A valid prescription should be available upon delivery
