Lamotrigine 25 mg Tablets
What is Lamotrigine used for :
Lamotrigine is a medication that is usually used in combination with other medications for multiple types of epileptic disorders (abnormalities in electrical conductions in the brain causing convulsions) in patients aged 2 years and older and as monotherapy (used alone) in patients aged 16 years and older with partial seizures (originated from one side from the brain) during their conversion from other previous antiepileptics to this one.
It is also used in patients with Bipolar disorder (mental disorder that causes unusual changes in the mood) in patients aged 18 years and older.
Do not take Lamotrigine :
If you are allergic to Lamotrigine or any of the ingredients in this medicine.
Tell your doctor about the allergy and what signs you had.
Warnings and Precautions :Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you develop allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, skin rash, swelling of the face or neck, decreased blood pressure and dizziness.
Stevens-Johnson syndrome cases were reported from the use of this medication.
This syndrome is a rare, serious disease of the skin that usually begins with signs of a flu and followed by a severe and painful skin rash with blisters.
Contact your physician immediately if you experience any of these signs.
Talk to your doctor immediately if you develop signs of hypersensitivity to the medication such as fever or signs of lymphadenopathy such as swollen, painful red lumps under your skin, feeling more tired than usual and night sweats.
Talk to your doctor if you experience any signs or symptoms of heart problems such as: shortness of breath, fatigue upon exertion, chest pain, peripheral swelling, fast or slow heart rate.
Contact your doctor if you experience unusual changes in behavior or mood, appearance or worsening of depression, suicidal thoughts.
Contact your doctor if you experience liver problems like dark urine, feeling tired, not hungry, upset stomach or stomach pain, light-colored stools, throwing up, or yellow skin or eyes.
This medication may cause blood problems such as neutropenia (low neutrophil count, neutrophils are responsible for fighting infections caused by bacteria), thrombocytopenia (low platelet count, platelets are responsible for wound healing and stopping bleeding) and other blood problems. Make sure to monitor for bleeding, delayed wound healing, easy bruising, feeling tired or dizzy, fever and looking pale.
Possible side effects of Lamotrigine :
Side effects of Lamotrigine include: allergic reactions, abdominal pain, back pain, fatigue, nausea, drowsiness and skin rash.
Other medicines and Lamotrigine :
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medications.If you are taking valproate (used to treat convulsions).
If you are taking carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, and primidone (used to treat convulsions)
If you are taking oral estrogen-containing contraceptives
If you are taking rifampin (used to treat tuberculosis)
How to take Lamotrigine :
Adults and children: Recommended dose is individualized based on concomitant medications, age and indication.
Do not exceed the recommended dose to prevent skin rash.
LAMICTAL Starter Kits and LAMICTAL ODT Patient Titration Kits can protect you from exceeding the dose during the first 5 weeks of treatment.
Take tablets with or without food.
Take orally disintegrating tablets of Lamotrigine by placing the tablet onto the tongue and then moving it around in your mouth. The tablet will become disintegrated immediately.
Take chewable dispersible tablets of Lamotrigine by either chewing and then drinking a small amount of water or diluted juice, or swallowing it whole, or mixing it in water or diluted fruit juice for a minimum of 1 minute and then drinking it immediately.
Take tablet with a full glass of water.
How to store Lamotrigine :
Store at 20 to 25°C (68 to 77°F)
Keep out of the reach of children and pets
Do not use beyond the expiry date mentioned on the box
Keep medication in its original pack to protect it from moisture
Do not use damaged pills
Do not dispose pills in the wastewater or household waste
