What Digoxin is used for:
Digoxin is used to treat arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat) and heart failure.
Do not take Digoxin:
If you’re allergic to the active substance, other cardiac glycosides or any other component of this medicine.
If you have heart conduction problems, especially Stokes-Adams syndrome.
If you have an irregular heartbeat caused by cardiac glycoside intoxication or conditions such as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
If you have obstructive cardiomyopathy (enlargement of the heart muscle).
Warnings and precautions:
Talk to your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this medicine including:
If you have other heart problems.
If you have respiratory problems.
If you have had a heart attack before.
If you have problems with your thyroid gland.
If you have abnormal levels of potassium, magnesium or calcium in your blood.
This medicine may cause other heart problems with symptoms similar to your condition.
Talk to your doctor if you keep experiencing symptoms.
Possible side effects;
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Serious side effects:
Heart palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath or sweating.
These can be symptoms of a serious heart problem caused by new irregular heartbeats.
Call your doctor.

Digoxin interacts with a lot of medicines including:
Medicines that affect the heart
Diuretics (water tablets)
Lithium
Corticosteroids
Antifungals
Antibiotics
Anti-viral medicine
Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
Antacids
Blood pressure medicine
How to take Digoxin:
Take exactly as indicated by your doctor.
Your doctor will determine the right dose for you based on your condition and severity.
The injection should be given as a slow infusion into a vein over a period of 10 to 20 minutes.
First you are given a loading dose to get your Digoxin levels up to the correct level quickly.
It is usually between 0.75-1 mg.
Then you will be taking a maintenance dose daily.
It is usually between 0.125-0.25 mg daily.
How to store Digoxin:
Store at room temperature below 77°F (25°C).
Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.
The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
*Dosage form and route of administration of Digoxin 0.25 mg tablets, 0.0625 mg tablets, 0.25 mg/ml solution for injection, and 0.05 mg/ml elixir should be prescribed according to therapeutic indication and disease severity of each individual patient.
