Amoxicillin (Klavox 156mg) is an antibiotic in a group of drugs called penicillins. Amoxicillin (Klavox 156mg) fights bacteria in the body.
Clavulanate potassium is a form of Clavulanic Acid (Klavox 156mg), which is similar to penicillin. Clavulanate potassium fights bacteria that is often resistant to penicillins and other antibiotics.
The combination of Amoxicillin (Klavox 156mg) and clavulanate potassium is used to treat many different infections caused by bacteria, such as sinusitis, pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, and infections of the skin.
Klavox 156mg-600 is indicated for the treatment of pediatric patients with recurrent or persistent acute otitis media due to S. pneumoniae (penicillin MICs ? 2 mcg/mL), H. influenzae (including ?-lactamase–producing strains), or M. catarrhalis (including ?-lactamase–producing strains) characterized by the following risk factors:
antibiotic exposure for acute otitis media within the preceding 3 months, and either of the following:
age ? 2 years
daycare attendance
How to use:
Prepare a suspension at time of dispensing as follows: Tap bottle until all the powder flows freely.
Add approximately 2/3 of the total amount of water for reconstitution and shake vigorously to suspend powder.
Add remainder of the water and again shake vigorously.
Each teaspoonful (5 mL) will contain 600 mg Amoxicillin (Klavox 156mg) as the trihydrate and 42.9 mg of Clavulanic Acid (Klavox 156mg) as the potassium salt.
Administration:
To minimize the potential for gastrointestinal intolerance, Klavox 156mg-600 should be taken at the start of a meal.
Absorption of clavulanate potassium may be enhanced when Klavox 156mg-600 is administered at the start of a meal.
Caution & Warnings:
Before taking this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to amoxicillin or clavulanic acid; or to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics; or if you have any other allergies.
This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Before using this medication, tell the doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease (including liver problems caused by previous use of amoxicillin/clavulanic acid), kidney disease (such as requiring dialysis), a certain type of viral infection (infectious mononucleosis).
Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).
This product may cause live bacterial vaccines (such as typhoid vaccine) to not work as well.
Do not have any immunizations/vaccinations while using this medication unless your doctor tells you to.
During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed.
Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
This medication passes into breast milk.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Side effects:
Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it;
pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, confusion or weakness;
easy bruising or bleeding;
skin rash, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness;
agitation, confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior, seizure (convulsions);
nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or
severe skin reaction -- fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.
Less serious side effects may include:
mild diarrhea, gas, stomach pain;
nausea or vomiting;
headache;
skin rash or itching;
white patches in your mouth or throat; or
vaginal yeast infection (itching or discharge).
