What is Vildagliptin & Metformin used for: Vildagliptin is an inhibitor of DPP-4, an enzyme that degrades the incretin hormones glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Incretins help the body produce more insulin only when it is needed and reduce the amount of glucose being produced by the liver when it is not needed.

It should be given with meals to reduce the gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin hydrochloride.
It may be initiated at 50mg/500 mg once daily and gradually titrated to a maximum dose of 50mg/1000 mg twice daily after assessing the adequacy of therapeutic response
Doses higher than 100mg of vildagliptin are not recommended
Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

If you have moderate or severe liver problems

Acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including lactic acidosis or diabetic ketoacidosis
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.
