Indomethacin Suppository's
What indomethacin is and what it is used for:
Indomethacin capsules belong to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
These medicines are pain killers which reduce swelling.
Do not take Indomethacin capsules if you:
are in the last three months of pregnancy or while you are breast-feeding.
are allergic to indomethacin or any of the ingredients of Indomethacin capsules
are allergic to aspirin, ibuprofen or other NSAIDs
are taking other NSAIDs
suffer with swelling
have or have had a history of bleeding in your stomach or intestines in the past.
have severe liver, kidney or heart problems
have nasal obstruction
Warnings and precautions:
Tell your doctor about your health conditions, including, if you have:
a history of high blood pressure or congestive heart failure
a bleeding or blood clotting disorder
a mental health problem e.g. mood changes
epilepsy
Parkinson’s Disease
an infection
any liver, kidney or heart problems
asthma
have gastrointestinal diseases
connective tissue disorders
diabetes
a problem with the circulation in the legs.
Possible side effects of indomethacin:
These include:
indigestion or heartburn
abdominal pain
constipation, diarrhea, wind
liver disease
skin reactions
aseptic meningitis
Other medicines and indomethacin:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, or have recently taken, any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription, particularly:
other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
some antibiotics
medicines which thin the blood
for depression
for diabetes
for epilepsy
for anxiety, difficulty sleeping, alcohol withdrawal, seizures and muscle spasm
medicines used to treat high blood pressure and heart diseases
for HIV infection
to suppress the immune system
to treat some types of cancer
diuretics
for some mental health problems
for gout
How to take indomethacin:
Lie down on your left side with right knee bent.
Push the suppository into the rectum with your finger.
Remain lying down for a few minutes, and avoid having a bowel movement for at least an hour to allow the drug to be completely absorbed.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
Adults should not use more than 200 milligrams per day.
For children, dosage is also based on weight.
The maximum dose for children is 4 milligrams per kilogram a day or 150 to 200 milligrams a day, whichever is less.
To reduce your risk of side effects (such as stomach bleeding), use this medication at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time.
Do not increase your dose or use it more often than prescribed.
For ongoing conditions such as arthritis, continue using it as.
