Mechanism Of Action Of Empagliflozin

Empagliflozin works by inhibiting the sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) found in the proximal tubules in the kidneys. Through SGLT2 inhibition, empagliflozin reduces renal reabsorption of glucose and increases urinary excretion of glucose.
 

Therapeutic Indications Of Glyxambi 25/5 Tablets

Empagliflozin is used to treat type 2 diabetes in adult patients (aged 18 years and older) that cannot be controlled by diet and exercise alone.
Empagliflozin can be used without other medicines in patients who cannot take metformin (another diabetes medicine).
Empagliflozin can also be used with other medicines for the treatment of diabetes. These may be medicines taken by mouth or given by injection such as insulin.

Method Of Administration Of Glyxambi 25/5 Tablets

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure
Do not change your dose unless your doctor has told you to. Swallow the tablet whole with water
You can take the tablet with or without food
You can take the tablet at any time of the day. However, try to take it at the same time each day. This will help you to remember to take it.

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Glyxambi 25/5 Tablets

Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking this medicine, and during treatment:
If you have “type 1 diabetes”.
If you experience rapid weight loss, feeling sick or being sick
If you have serious kidney or liver problems
If you might be at risk of dehydration (severe diarrhea for example)
If you are 85 years old or older
If you have a serious infection of the kidney or the urinary tract with fever.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
 

Normal Ranges

Random blood sugar test: A blood sample will be taken at a random time. Regardless of when you last ate, a blood sugar level of 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or higher suggests diabetes. A blood sugar level less than 140 mg/dL is normal. A reading between 140 and 199 mg/dL indicates prediabetes
Fasting blood sugar test. A blood sample will be taken after an overnight fast. A fasting blood sugar level less than 100 mg/dl is normal. A fasting blood sugar level from 100 to 125 mg/dL is considered prediabetes. If it's 126 mg/dL or higher on two separate tests, you may have diabetes.
Oral glucose tolerance test: For this test, you fast overnight, and the fasting blood sugar level is measured. Then you drink a sugary liquid, and blood sugar levels are tested periodically for the next two hours.
