bimatoprost / timolol ophthalmic solution is indicated for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
What Bimatoprost/ Timolol is used for: This product is used for patients (including elderly) with elevated eye pressure. Your doctor will prescribe this product if other eye drops containing either a beta-blocker or a prostaglandin analog have not worked for you before. It is available as single dose solutions that do not contain any preservatives. Do not use Bimatoprost/ Timolol : If you are allergic to Bimatoprost, Timolol or any of the ingredients in this medicine. Tell your doctor about the allergy and what signs you had. If you currently have or have previously had respiratory problems like asthma or severe chronic obstructive bronchitis (severe lung disease which may cause difficulty breathing and wheezing). If you have heart problems like heart failure (inability of your heart muscle to pump properly), low heart rate, or heart block. Warnings and precautions: Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you develop allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, skin rash, swelling of the face or neck, decreased blood pressure and dizziness. This medication may cause changes in your eye color, eyelashes and their growth, length, thickness, color, direction and number. Change in your eye color may increase during your treatment. Color changes may not be noticed until months or years have passed. Once you stop using this medication, the color change of your eye is expected to be permanent, unlike the eyelashes and periorbital area (area around the eyes) that are expected to gain their original color. This medicine may cause hair growth when in contact with the skin. Make sure to tell your doctor about other eye disorders that you have such as eye inflammation or eye edema. Make sure to remove contact lenses before the administration of the eye drop. You can wear your contact lenses again after at least 15 minutes of applying your eye drop. Avoid contact of the eye drop tip with your eye to prevent bacterial contamination. Seek your physician advice if you develop an eye infection, or eyelid reactions or if you have a planned surgery. Timolol may affect some medicines used during anesthesia used in some surgeries. If you are using more than one eye drop solution, make sure to administer each at least five minutes apart. Talk to your doctor if you feel abnormal eye sensation (pain or stinging) in your eye after applying the eye drop. This medicine may worsen your eye inflammation if you already have it. Talk to your doctor before starting this medicine if you have eye inflammation. This medicine may cause macular edema (retina at the back of the eye becomes swollen) especially if you do not have a lens (surgically removed) or if you have had an artificial lens implanted in your eye. Talk to your doctor before starting this medicine if you have either of these eye lens problems or if you have previously had a cataract surgery. Talk to your doctor if you develop macular edema signs like blurry or wavy vision. Talk to your doctor before starting this medicine if you have heart problems like coronary heart disease (symptoms include difficulty breathing, chest pain or tightness), heart failure (symptoms may include shortness of breath, swelling of the limbs and abdomen, fatigue), low blood pressure, changes in heart rate (e.g. slow heart rate); respiratory problems like asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; poor blood circulation problems (e.g. Raynaud’s disease), overactive thyroid gland, diabetes, severe allergic reaction and liver or kidney problems. Possible side effects: A very common side effect is eye redness. Common side effects include growth of eyelashes, eye itching, light sensitivity, eye burning and stinging, eye pain, dry eyes, sticky eyes, foreign body sensation, small breaks in the surface of the eye with or without inflammation, redness and itching of the eyelids, difficulty in seeing clearly, hair growth around the eye, darkening of the eyelids and skin color around the eyes, eye irritation, reduced vision, longer eyelashes, swollen eyelids, runny nose, headache and watery eyes. Other medicines and Bimatoprost/ Timolol : Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medications including eye drops. If you are using more than one eye drop solution, make sure to administer each at least five minutes apart to avoid precipitation of the eye drop. If you are taking medicines to lower blood pressure. If you are taking medicines used to treat some heart problems. If you are taking medicines used to treat diabetes (high blood glucose levels). If you are taking quinidine (used to treat some heart problems and some types of malaria). If you are taking fluoxetine or paroxetine (used to treat depression). How to apply Bimatoprost/ Timolol: Adults: Recommended dose is one drop in the affected eye once daily (in the evening or in the morning). Do not use more than once daily because the effectiveness of the treatment may be decreased. Use your eye drops solution as directed by your doctor. Children (under 18 years of age): Use of this medicine is not recommended in children under 18 years of age. Wash your hands. Tear one single dose container from the strip and hold it in an upright position then twist off the cap. Tilt your head slightly backward and pull down your lower eyelid making a pocket. Keep the container above your eye with the tip facing down. Look upward and away from the container then press on it to release a drop. Let go of the lower eyelid and close your eyes while pressing your finger against the corner of the closed eye and hold for 2 minutes. Discard the single-dose container after using it, even if it is not empty. Space your eye drops by at least 5 minutes. Apply eye gels or ointments at the end. Use at the same time every day. Do not stop using your medication without consulting your doctor. Make sure that the single dose container is intact before you use it and make sure to apply the dose immediately after opening the container. How to store Bimatoprost/ Timolol: Discard the single use container 7 days after removing it from the pouch Discard single use containers 10 days after opening the pouch Discard any remaining solution in a single dose container after opening it and applying a dose Keep out of the reach of children and pets Do not use beyond the expiry date mentioned on the box Keep away from light Do not dispose in the wastewater or household waste
