• Fenofibrate is a medication that lowers blood levels of elevated triglycerides (fatty acids) and cholesterol when used with a diet low in cholesterol. It functions by accelerating the blood's triglyceride breakdown and elimination.

Uses:

•  Their general effectiveness in lowering levels of triglycerides, VLDL cholesterol and total cholesterol.

Precautions and warnings:

It is not advisable for you to take fenofibrate if you have an allergy to it or if you have:

• severe renal disease.
• liver disease;
• gallbladder disease.
• While using this medication and for at least five days following your final dosage, avoid breastfeeding.

Common fenofibrate side effects may include:

• runny nose.
• sneezing.
• abnormal laboratory tests.

• severe stomach ache radiating to your shoulder blade or back;
• a decrease in appetite and gastrointestinal discomfort shortly after eating;
• jaundice (skin or eyes becoming yellow);
• fever, chills, weakness, mouth or throat sores, unexpected bleeding or bruises;
• chest discomfort, an abrupt cough, wheezing, fast breathing, or blood in the cough; or
• An arm or leg that is swollen, heated, or red.
