Citalopram 20 mg film-coated tablets What Citalopram is used for : Citalopram is used to treat depression. Do not take Citalopram : If you’re allergic to the active substances or any other component of this medicine. If you are currently taking or took a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) in the past 14 days. If you are currently taking one of these medications: Escitalopram, Linezolid, Pimozide or Methylene Blue. Warnings and precautions : Talk to your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this drug including: If you have heart problems such as abnormal heart rhythm or heart failure. If you’ve had a recent heart attack. If you are taking or took medications for Parkinson’s disease in the past 14 days. If you have seizures or epilepsy. If you have any bleeding disorders. If you have liver disease. If you have severe kidney disease. This medicine raises the chance of suicidal thoughts or actions in children, adolescents and young adults. All people who take this drug need to be watched closely. Call the doctor right away if any thoughts or actions of suicide occur. This medication increases the risk of bleeding if taken with certain medications such as blood thinners. A severe and sometimes deadly problem called serotonin syndrome may happen. The risk may be greater if you also take certain other drugs. Do not stop taking this drug all of a sudden without calling your doctor. You may have a greater risk of side effects. Your doctor will slowly stop this medicine for you. Possible Side Effects : Stop using this product and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash; hives; blisters; itching; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. Serious Side Effects : Serotonin syndrome characterized by change in balance; confusion; hallucinations; fever; fast or abnormal heartbeat; flushing; muscle twitching or stiffness; seizures; shivering or shaking; sweating a lot; severe diarrhea, upset stomach, or throwing up; or very bad headache. Suicidal thoughts. Low sodium levels. Bleeding. Seizures. Irregular heartbeat. Other medicines and Citalopram : Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking. Taking in combination with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) can lead to serious, sometimes fatal, reactions. How to take Citalopram : Take this medicine as indicated by your doctor. Take this medicine at the same time of the day. Do not discontinue this medication suddenly. The usual starting dose is 10 or 20 mg once daily. Your doctor may gradually increase it for you. How to store Citalopram : Store at room temperature 68 to 77°F (20 to 25°C). Keep this medicine out of reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. *Dosage form and route of administration of Citalopram 20 mg film-coated tablets and 40 mg film-coated tablets should be prescribed according to therapeutic indication and disease severity of each individual patient.
