Mechanism of Action
The exact mechanism of action of quetiapine is not fully understood, but several proposed mechanisms exist:
In schizophrenia, it may work by antagonizing dopamine type 2 (D2) and serotonin 2A (5HT2A) receptors.
In bipolar depression and major depressive disorder, its effects may be due to the binding of quetiapine or its metabolite to the norepinephrine transporter.
Additional effects, such as somnolence, orthostatic hypotension, and anticholinergic effects, may result from the antagonism of H1 receptors, adrenergic α1 receptors, and muscarinic M1 receptors, respectively.

Quetiapine is used to treat various conditions, including:
Bipolar depression and major depressive episodes in major depressive disorder: Symptoms may include sadness, guilt, lack of energy, loss of appetite, or difficulty sleeping.
