Mechanism Of Action Of Ambroxol:

• Ambroxol is a mucolytic. It breaks down the acid mucopolysaccharide fibers which makes the sputum thinner and less viscous and therefore promotes mucus clearance.

Therapeutic Indications Of Mucosolvan Forte Syrup:

• Ambroxol is an expectorant/mucolytic used in the treatment of acute and chronic respiratory disorders associated with abnormal mucus secretion and impaired mucus transport.

Method Of Administration Of Mucosolvan Forte Syrup:

• Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
• Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• Shake well before uses
• Ambroxol syrup should be taken at mealtimes.
• The average doses:
• For adults and children over 12 years: 10 ml three times daily; to be increased to 20 ml twice daily in severe conditions and the initial treatment of chronic conditions up to 14 days.
• Children 6 - 12 years: 5 ml 2-3 times daily.
• Children 2 - 6 years: 2.5 ml 3 times daily after physician consultation
• Children below 2 years: 2.5 ml twice daily after physician consultation
• Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
• If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
• If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
• Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Undesirable Side Effects Of Mucosolvan Forte Syrup:

• Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:

1. Mild upper gastrointestinal side effects (primarily heartburn, dyspepsia, and occasionally nausea, vomiting)
2. Allergic reactions, primarily skin rash

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Mucosolvan Forte Syrup:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
• Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

Non-Pharmacological Treatments & Advice To Reduce Cough Severity:

• Stay hydrated: Drink lots of water to thin mucus.
• Inhale steam: Take a hot shower, or boil water and pour it into a bowl, face the bowl (stay at least 1 foot away), place a towel over the back of your head to form a tent, and inhale.
• Use a humidifier, for example, Vicks Air Humidifier, to loosen mucus
• Have a little honey before bed. Studies show that sweet stuff can help ease a cough. Don’t give honey to children under 12 months. Manuka Honey is a powerful weapon in fighting coughs and sore throats
• Avoid inhaled irritants such as dust, perfumes, or pollutants. Wear a face mask to reduce exposure to the allergen
• Sometimes smoke irritates your airways and causes inflammation that turns into bronchitis. Stopping smoking will help you to get rid of your cough.
• Lozenges like Strepsils soothe an irritated throat

• Before you use this medicine talk to your doctor or pharmacist:

1. If you suffer from bronchial asthma
2. If you have or have had a peptic ulcer
3. If you suffer from Hepatic disease
4. If you suffer from Hepatic disease
5. If you suffer from Renal impairment
6. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine.

• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.

Storage Conditions Of Mucosolvan Forte Syrup:

• Store below 25°c
• Don’t refrigerate
• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
