Mechanism Of Action Of Folic Acid:

  • Folic acid is a B vitamin (Vitamin B9) that helps your body make red blood cells.
  • Folate-deficiency anemia is the lack of folic acid in the blood.

 

Therapeutic Indications Of Folic Acid 5 Mg Tablets:

  • Supports the general well-being.
  • Help you fulfill your nutritional needs and support your everyday health and well-being.
  • Used in the prevention and treatment of folate deficiency anemia caused by poor diet, poor absorption of food, or increased use of folate in the body (as in pregnancy).

 

Method Of Administration Of Folic Acid 5 Mg Tablets:

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
  • Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • The average dose: in normal cases 1 tablet with a full cup of water during or after meals or as directed by a physician.
  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

 

Undesirable Side Effects Of Folic Acid 5 Mg Tablets:

  • Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
  1. Upset stomach.
  2. Nausea.
  3. Allergic reaction.

 

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Folic Acid 5 Mg Tablets:

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

 

Advice To Avoid Folic Deficiency & Anemia:

  • Folate deficiency anemia is prevented and treated by eating a healthy diet. This includes foods rich in folic acids, such as nuts, leafy green vegetables, enriched bread and cereals, and fruit.
  • Avoid drinking coffee or tea with meals. These drinks make it harder for your body to absorb iron.
  • Be aware that anemia has different types & treatments sometimes may require Iron or vitamin B complex so always check your lab values and ask your physician.

 

Warnings & Special Precautions While Taking Folic Acid 5 Mg Tablets:

  • Before you use this medicine talk to your doctor or pharmacist:
  1. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine.
  2. If you have or have had a peptic ulcer.
  3. If you suffer from hepatic disease.
  4. If you suffer from renal impairment.
  5. If you suffer from any cardiac disease.
  6. If you suffer from bronchial asthma.
  7. If you suffer from diabetes.
  8. If you have any disease that reduces the amount of vitamin B12 in the body.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.

 

Storage Conditions Of Folic Acid 5 Mg Tablets:

  • Store below 25°c.
  • Don’t refrigerate.
  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Store in the original package to protect it from moisture.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.

  • The normal value of folic acid is 2.7 to 17.0 nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL) or 6.12 to 38.52 nanomoles per liter (nmol/L).
